About GRIT: The Story
About the Artist + Work
Each board I create is a journey and a meditation. Crafted from a blend of premium and repurposed woods, my pieces tell a story that resonates with elements of nature. The live edges and flowing lines in my designs mimic the serene movement of ocean waves, rivers, and the gentle curves of landscapes, inviting viewers to find their own meanings and connections. The work is an abstraction inspired from nature scenes.
The subject in each piece is only implied in order to provoke the viewers imagination. The work is meant to engage the viewer in the co-creation of it's meaning and significance. The abstraction is what makes it interactive and self-reflective. The natural grain patterns of the woods add an organic element, enhancing the visual narrative.
As the artist behind GRIT, my work is a reflection of my journey through life with multiple sclerosis (MS). The name GRIT embodies my determination and resilience in the face of this condition, and it is an integral part of my inspiration and creative process. Through my art, I aim to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about people with MS, demonstrating that beauty and strength can emerge from this type of adversity.
Creating these boards is not just an artistic endeavor; it is a form of resistance. When I work with these materials, I am exercising both my body and mind, finding peace and grounding in the process. Transforming raw, recycled wood into functional pieces of art that people can use and enjoy is fulfilling.
Each piece of wood has had a previous life, and in many cases I'm breathing new life into materials that would in many cases - otherwise be discarded.
My hope is that each board from GRIT not only brings a little beauty and utility into people’s lives, but also inspires them to see the strength and creativity that can arise from challenging circumstances. Everyone sees something different in my work, and that is what makes the creative process rewarding.
Thank you for joining me on this journey, and for your support! I hope that my work brings a little spark of joy into your home.

Inspired by nature. Crafted with love.
Each piece from GRIT is meticulously handcrafted, drawing inspiration from the natural world. I hope my work brings a touch of nature's tranquility into your home. Crafted with love and care, each board is a testament to the power of creative resilience.

Crafting Heirlooms: Quality, Tradition, and Artistry
I honor your investment by creating the highest quality products using traditional methods. Driven by a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship, meticulous detail, and artistic design, each piece is crafted to be an heirloom, a timeless work of art meant to be cherished for generations.

Your Story, Your Interpretation
At GRIT, every piece of art is crafted with a story in mind, but it's just one narrative, one way to interpret it. Each individual brings their own unique perspective and experiences 'to the table', and our work is intended to reflect what you see. Whether it's the grain of the wood, the abstract patterns, or the overall composition, the true beauty lies in how it resonates with you. The art invites you to co-create its meaning, allowing your personal story to shine through.
FAQ

If I want to use a board for serving or preparing food, can I wash it or cut on it?
Yes. In fact each piece is wet multiple times in the finishing process to 'pre-season' the wood. Just don't put it in the dishwasher, no wood products do well in there.
What Kind of finish do you put on the wood?
I finish each piece with a simple mineral oil. You can add more if you feel it needs it, or a food grade wax product if you would like to.
Our board has become somewhat of a family heirloom, can I have you refinish it?
Sure! Contact me and I would be happy to do so.
Is your wood sustainably sourced?
Yes, in fact much of the wood I source has been repurposed, is scrap from other projects, or once had a life as another object. However, some wood is purchased locally
Can you recreate a board that has sold out?
No. Each piece is unique and no two pieces are alike. I can make boards using similar materials, but I do not make dozens of the same thing.
How long does it take you to make one piece?
It varies by the complexity of the design, but at a minimum one piece takes about a week to create. The complexity of the design adds time.
